I bought my Sennheiser HD 590s on 2005-05-27 for $105.
I think I used an Amazon.com credit card promotion to get the price down below $100.
I got these to use with my laptop, which is my secondary DAW.
I also wanted some high-quality backup headphones in case my HD 580s stop working or have to be sent in for repair.
They sound a little different.
I haven't don't any rigorous A/B testing, but noticed for one song that the HD 590s sound less crisp than the HD 580s for deep bass notes.
It's really hard to describe that difference in words.
I also don't remember it very well.
When my HD 580s were having distortion problems (which I resolved), I used the HD 590s as replacements.
I really didn't notice any difference once I got working on the music.
They were comfortable and clear.
