Notes
This set of guitar improvs was recorded over two days in February 2003. It was a semi-attempt at a sequel to The Key of G, but I didn't like it at the time, so didn't bother digitizing it.
There are some pretty catchy moments in here, and of course some clunkers too. There's also lots of profanity, which is a shame. I guess I was frustrated by tangled wires.
Songs

- recorded: 2003-02-08
- location: Bellingham
- length: 1:33
- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, vocals
- mp3: download listen locally (flash player)(HTML5 player)
The lyrics are simple and a little whiny, and the music is dirgy. However, I kinda like the simplicity. Too bad I messed up, because it would have been nice if it lasted longer.
Lyrics to "I Miss You":
i miss you i miss you you're at work you're at work i miss you i miss you you're at work all day you're at work all day you're at work all day you're at work all day i miss you i miss you you're at work all day you're at work all day you're at home all day i'm at home all day i'm all alone all day i'm alone all day i'm alone all day

- recorded: 2003-02-08
- location: Bellingham
- length: 0:25
- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, talking
- mp3: download listen locally (flash player)(HTML5 player)
Chatter.
Lyrics to "Guitar Fear":
we're all afraid of the future when travis is at the guitar we're all afraid of the future but we just add a little structure add a little predictability and things will shape up
Metronome
- Post-Key track 4
- recorded: 2003-02-08
- location: Bellingham
- length: 2:29
- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, vocals
- mp3: download listen locally (flash player)(HTML5 player)
This trancy, throbbing chant is similar to "Key". However, it's sloppier and doesn't last as long.
Lyrics to "Metronome":
all we need is a metronome all i need is a nice home all i need is a metronome all i need is a comfy home all i need is a metronome gotta stay in time to metronome or it all dies it all dies ugh gonna change the pick up 1 2 oh all i have is a metronome forgot the notes long ago can't even stay in time to the metronome all i don't know is oh i gotta salvage this somehow i don't know how though what can you do if the metronome i gotta back up my voice i mean i mean i mean i mean i mean i mean i mean i mean get away from the microphone mean mean mean no i'm not mean mean mean mean i'm not mean mean mean mean i need sing into the mic travis sing into the mic travis metronome sing into the mic travis and get yourself a metronome sing into the mic travis don't forget to open the door for giovanna what a waste of tape
Spaghetti Cables

- recorded: 2003-02-08
- location: Bellingham
- length: 0:08
- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, vocals
- mp3: download listen locally (flash player)(HTML5 player)
Very short song idea, probably interrupted by wire rage.
Lyrics to "Spaghetti Cables":
i hate spaghetti cables they make me mad
Bandaid

- recorded: 2003-02-08
- location: Bellingham
- length: 0:33
- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, vocals
- mp3: download listen locally (flash player)(HTML5 player)
This catchy little idea doesn't last very long. I don't know why.
Lyrics to "Bandaid":
got a bandaid on one finger da da da da da da da da da got a bandaid on one finger da da da da da da da da da got a bandaid on one finger sorry i'm not a better singer got a bandaid on one finger da da da da da da da da da
Dog Sheet
- Post-Key track 7
- recorded: 2003-02-08
- location: Bellingham
- length: 0:24
- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, vocals
- mp3: download listen locally (flash player)(HTML5 player)
This is silly and annoying, but mercifully short.
Lyrics to "Dog Sheet":
the dog didn't like the music so he went outside the dog ate the sheet music so he sheeted outside the dog liked the kitty so they went outside
F the Audience
- Post-Key track 8
- recorded: 2003-02-08
- location: Bellingham
- length: 11:33
- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, vocals
This song is really long, but not that great. There's lots of profanity here. The song ended when G arrived; hence my self-conscious laugh at the very end.
Lyrics to "F the Audience":
f--k the audience and you end up with a child called traudience f--k the audience and you end up with a child called audivis f--k the audience and you end up with a child called emdience f--k the audience and you end up with a child called audismitt f--k the audience and you end up with a sh--ty song like this one i you think "f--k the audience; there's no audience", you end up with a pile of crap if you say "i don't need no stinking audience" then your music will have no audience if you say "i don't need no stinking audience" better get yourself a metronome better get yourself a metronome better expect to never leave your home until you get a metronome until you got to leave your home until you get a metronome you're never gonna leave your home until you get a metronome you're never gonna leave your home and never get a metronome if you never leave your home learn to count, trav, learn to count re-learn to count, re-learn to count re-learn to count, re-learn to play guitar to play guitar at one point i could play okay but now it sucks, it sucks all day i cannot play guitar today i don't know why you gotta get yourself a metronome you gotta leave your home to get the metronome and if you get the metronome you'll feel a need to leave the home insert lyrics here insert witicism these lyrics aren't so clear they're called crapolism that wasn't funny wit and music go hand in hand creativity flows from the brain much like mucus la la la something something if you aren't inspired if you don't have fire then all the music in the world won't ever sound like what you play it sounds so stupid all the day so throw in some fake accents 'cause accents make you hide behind the accents make you fine something inside my thumb is so sore 'cause i have not played much i haven't played much anymore anytime could open the door anytime could open the door then i gotta clean this mess up off the floor if someone opens up the door my headphones are achin' and my thumb's achin' too i am playing this song for you i have no audience do i have an audience i don't know if i have an audience if you make sounds like that travis you'll lose your audience you'll alienate them if you just sound yourself then you won't have anyone else listening to your songs so you gotta throw in something unique you gotta change your voice your outlook and your technique that would have been cool if i thought of the rhyme a little bit sooner it's a lot like tennis you gotta hustle, gotta move your feet if you wanna make the music sound neat uh huh that's right throw in a clich-i-e pronounce cliche right huh huh get the rhymes right uh huh let's try it again if you try it again you sound like a fool but maybe then again you'll get it right and someone will say hey that's clever that's good job, a-ok you're okay travis you're not a fool you're not washed up you're not a creative lump of refuse you can do something original in 15 minutes if you keep trying it's not so bad it's not so bad you gotta keep playing you gotta get into a groove just keep playing and pretend you have audience even if you're never ever gonna have an audience it's okay just play for youself you gotta mirror that's okay mirror's okay mirror's enough to make you feel like you know what you're doing but you're just making it up as you go along it's okay if you get a little off it's okay it's okay everything's okay you gotta change the lyrics and change your voice so you alienate your audience and alienate yourself maybe not alienate but at least you bore them bore them they go to sleep and they have dreams and where are they then they and they're not there they're not there they're somewhere else can that be called alienation if they don't feel they're with you if they feel they're shut out of you uh bad bad timing and a bad bad time bad bad timing will improve as you play guitar more la de de de da any time now she'll arrive she's a minute late but that's okay because mostly she's a couple hours late a minute's not so bad 5 minutes is not so bad and 10 minutes is not so bad even 15 minutes is not so bad half an hour is not so bad play in time travis gotta play in time more i guess this is about time to end my thumb is hurtin' my fingers are hurtin' my voice is poopy today and i have nothing else to say but can you keep on pushing can you keep on pushing and come up with something good my thumb it hurts so much it hurts so much and i have a bandaid on if you're tired of the song i wanna, i want you to clap your hands along when i say clap just clap your hands i can't do it, can't lead by example 'cause i am playing interesting; if you participate you cannot always relate to the audience perfectly 'cause you're doing something unique i'm playing a guitar so that alienates me i suppose if i did a cappella and if i could not sing then the audience might be able to participate with me perfectly assuming i get the words right assuming i play the notes right oops i forgot no notes in an a cappella thing-a-thing-a-thing you call it a sing-a-ling-ding sing along whatever thing just say "thing" enough times 'cause thing rhymes with thing and everything's a thing it's safe to say "blaa thing" blaa blaa blaa blaa thing if you're vague enough and everything you say guess it's okay but the key is to come up with something precise that's refutable and to be right as usual that's the scientific method cover everything in one song trav why don't you just be if you can only handle 3 chords in this song might as well throw as many concepts into it i don't know why it's like picking 3 main ingredients for a dish and adding 2700 spices but that's a hyperbole and i don't really like hyperbole 'cause i don't have 2700 spices i have more like a dozen somewhere between a dozen and 15 spices on my hold on, i'm gonna count 1 2 3 i don't care to count 'cause it's gonna throw me off i won't be able to play with my left hand assuming i'm doing that now 'cause i could be pretending you know but can actually go slower and this is proof that i ??? oh yeah really good idea for an intermission trav this is not a classic song it might never make it onto the hard drive i might erase it sometime might not be alive very long it's a stupid song sure there's occasional times when it sounds normal but mostly it's just crappy to my ears and probably to yours so where's the symbolism is there always symbolism is this a travisism is this song about me 3 chords over and over again repetition ??? the routine with occasional sloppy mistakes and talking talking talking mostly bs, arguably bs but sometimes i guess there's insight in the words that come out of the mouth ugh what a way to say something as easy as "say" why don't you just say "say" say say say say say getting back to the thing the everything thing the safe safe thing the safe safe thing
Rollin
- Post-Key track 9

- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, vocals
- mp3: download listen locally (flash player)(HTML5 player)
This started the second day of recording; you can tell things have changed by the new position of the mics.
Anyway, this song begins with a neat idea, but I lost my train of thought, probably (again) due to wire problems.
Lyrics to "Rollin":
ok are we rollin ok let's all roll roll a little to the left ??? the left ??? right right you don't have to sing anything correct tonight
I Hate F Wires
- Post-Key track 10
- recorded: 2003-02-09
- location: Bellingham
- length: 0:43
- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, vocals
Lots of profanity. I was mad at the wires.
Lyrics to "I Hate F Wires":
i'm trying to keep the profanity to a minimum but i'm deal with wires and wires always piss me off so i'll just call this "i hate f--king wires" i hate f--king wires i hate f--king wires i hate f--king wires ??? s--t stop the f--king tape travis i don't know why i'm resorting to profanity i'm just doing it it's too loud man just f--k
Together
- Post-Key track 11
- recorded: 2003-02-09
- location: Bellingham
- length: 6:09
- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, vocals
This is about cohabitation trepidations. It contains profanity.
Lyrics to "Together":
this is i think the 9th of february sunday and tomorrow we decide whether or not we're gonna move into together in together will we move into together are we gonna move into together are we gonna live together she wonders what can go wrong she obsesses about what can go wrong i just want to live together i just want to be together and she worries about what can go wrong and i don't worry about what can go wrong 'cause i, i don't worry about what can go wrong because i know that even in a s--ty song there's moments that you can create that sound ok to me i can create something that sounds ok to me i can create a place that feels ok to me i can can find a place that ??? it would be ok that's my belief, it's our belief it would be ok that's my belief, that's my belief it will be k that's my belief, it will be our belief it will be our belief, ??? i hope we always live together i hope we always live together i hope we learn to sing together i hope we... whatever it will always be ok if i'm around it will always be ok if i'm around it always ends up ok to me life it always opens up to me life is always generous to me life is always generous to me 'cause i am generous to life you see and some people call it karma and i call it just luck and you can say that luck is strength, ooh as long as you don't f--k up it will be ok, believe and it will be ok if you just belief it will be ok if you just belief all it takes is a little belief and effort and effort and effort and if we're always together there is nothing to worry about i will learn to sing it better 'cause i always do it that way i can improve, that's what i do i can improve, that's what i do i piss off neighbors i piss off friends i piss off family 'cause i just got to improve what is me i piss of everything they tell me shut up 'cause i just focus on what i can affect it's all about the effect it's all about the effect
Effects Spin

More chatter.
Lyrics to "Effects Spin":
ok i guess that means it's time for another song i have no idea how this is gonna sound just spin some effects around i have no idea what this is gonna sound like i'm just gonna pick an arbitary key here i don't want too much flange because flange is a little bit annoying so i'm just gonna go ahead and start playing
Lost Touch
- Post-Key track 13
- recorded: 2003-02-09
- location: Bellingham
- length: 5:32
- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, vocals
This starts really rough, but then gets kinda funny. It contains profanity.
Lyrics to "Lost Touch":
i've got an uneasy feeling in my tummy i've got a nose that is runny these lyrics don't amount to much 'cause i am out of touch i lost my touch i lost my touch i lost my touch i lost my my nose is runny and my lips are bare ??? blaa blaa blaa baa baa bear that wasn't funny if you lose your touch should you shy away from what you think you can no longer play if you lose your skills should you run for cover should you find another hobby should you find another lover if you lose your touch should you quit while you're ahead are you ahead or will you stay in bed will you cry like a baby will you yell for your mama will you be a f--king sissy will you be pathetic uh will you give up will you spit up will you f--k up when i lose my touch i just grin and bear it i try to make it fun i try to keep at it i try to keep on pushing and gradually i see i see improvement all around me i ??? ooh ahh sometimes it takes effort sometimes it takes luck if you don't put forth effort you won't have any luck sometimes it takes effort sometimes it takes pain if you don't put forth any effort you won't make any gain it's a cliche don't let it throw you it's like a horse that is buckin' buckin' buckin' you keep on playing, keep on playing 'cause eventually you'll find something catchy you'll create something that's neat keep on playing, keep on trying keep on pushing ahead if you don't then you might as well just stay in bed and be dead, lazy head pathetic head i don't want to be harsh on other people i just gotta be harsh on me i don't want to be strict with other people i just gotta be strict with me 'cause that is how i push ahead i gotta feel an agitation when there's something ahead uh a task or something if there is a gap i gotta say something gotta go "uh" just gotta go "uh" if you say the "uh" it fills space it, it does something it's a little primal it's something that you can fall back on uh when you're umm uh when you're screwing up uh you can just say "uh" just put forth some effort uh if you say "uh" then that will be enough sometimes all you gotta do is make sure that there is no whitespace in your life, in your life make sure that you don't have any empty space in your life, in your life just keep pushing ahead pushing ahead pushing ahead

- mp3: download listen locally (flash player)(HTML5 player)
This is really dumb.
Lyrics to "Party Animal":
enough of that one i'm gonna play something a little bit more melodic now it's gonna be a little bit more melodic and it's gonna be called "the life of the party animal" ok this the life of the party animal if i can find the volume switch this is the life of the party animal this is the life of the crude person who, who never really allowed himself to to be by himself that much he had to cling to other people he had to cling like, like a imagine you're taking a test and you gotta cheat, gotta cheat, gotta cheat that's all, the only way you can do you gotta cheat, gotta cheat imagine you're taking a test you gotta smoke yeah right
Do Do Do
- Post-Key track 15
- recorded: 2003-02-09
- location: Bellingham
- length: 7:20
- Travis Emmitt - electric guitar, vocals
This contains profanity. It's really sloppy at first, but becomes more original later. If you call banging on one note repeatedly original. On the plus side, the vocals sound nice and crisp.
Lyrics to "Do Do Do":
'cause that will just annoy the neighbors i just gotta be able to go do do do do do... with the thumb, with the thumb with the thumb, with the thumb gotta go do do do do do do... with the thumb, with the thumb with the thumb i don't play bass i don't even sing barely play the guitar but i have fun with the thing rely on the same chords same progressions but every time i do something different i'm creating something umm if you stick to the simple and you assemble your own thing then you're creating something but if you take other people's ideas and just regurgitate them no matter how sophisticated they are you are doing nothing you are just driving a car if you take the simple crayons and you paint a pretty picture and you use a combination of colors and textures create a simple crayon oh whatever, da da da da and de de de do just remember to say "uh" sometimes life is you start with chaos you start with something simple you start with strumming you start with stupid chords you start with bad bad vocals you start with cruddy cruddy tape records cruddy 4-track cruddy microphone cruddy guitar which you didn't even bother to tune but that's okay sitting in my room 'cause that's all i'm doing today i don't know why i can't stay in time my da da da da da my brain is slow my brain is slow so i recorded my own album once in one day i was inspired then this is more of a test of my ability to recapture that stength and luck boy what i notice is i keep f--king up i have trouble staying in time and i have trouble with the rhymes am i uninspired or am i just tired maybe you get good maybe you get good maybe that's the moral of these stupid exercises maybe you will get good maybe you will get good maybe you will get good if you put forth effort and if i rely on non-words such as "uh" and if i fall back on utterings such as "ugh" and if i lapse into silence and then say "eh" and if i can't think of anything more than "uh" maybe i am high on love and love and love maybe i am f--ked up, f--ked up on love love makes you happy and love can you make you fat 'cause you focus on others you focus on her instead of you how do you handle the shifting of the view how do you handle the shift away from you i gotta bandaid on one hand i gotta bandaid on my little finger it's actually my index finger these are dumb lyrics will you say "uh" get a grunting going get the grunting going just fall back on grunting just fall back on grunting da da da da... ok i'm gonna play like i'm gonna pretend like that i'm in front of stuart's actually inside of stuart's with an audience gotta think fast gonna close my eyes hey you on the couch do you think you look cool hey you with the scarf does everyone wear one of those at school hey you with the trend hey you with the coffee everyone looked around when i said "coffee" well not everyone some people resisted some people resisted some people hate audience partication 'cause participation don't be a part, don't participate don't be a part, don't participate don't be a part, don't participate don't be a part, don't participate be yourself, be whole, be the everything be yourself, be whole, be everything be yourself, be whole, be everything and be yourself, be whole, be everything and don't be a part, don't participate don't be a part, don't participate don't be a part, don't participate don't be a part, don't

Lyrics to "Overestimation":
yeah like i can really go to another chord from that you are overestimating my ability i was overestimating my ability to change chords 'cause as we all know i don't really have the ability to change chords i can barely handle one chord in fact, i'm not even trying to handle one chord i'm just barely getting by with this monotony
Imagine Stuarts
- Post-Key track 17
- recorded: 2003-02-09

This was about a local artsy-fartsy coffee bar that has since closed. It's sloppy and a little grating.
Lyrics to "Imagine Stuarts":
imagine you go to stuart's and there' gum guy playing the song in the room imagine you go to stuart's and some guy is banging a horrible tune imagine you go to stuart's and everyone leaves the room imagine you go to stuart's and it's a f--king disaster this is why sequels suck

Insightfully gloomy. It gradually crescendoes.
Lyrics to "Commiseration":
take away the pain and everything seemed plain take away the pain and you're alone again for some reason pain makes us feel part of a race part of a group 'cause we need others when we're hurt we think of others when we are hurt we turn to others when we are hurt we rely on others when we are hurt we connect to others when we are hurt we reach out to others when we are hurt we write songs for others when we are hurt we are with others take away the pain and you're alone again take away the pain and you're alone again take away the pain and you're alone again take away the pain you're alone again why are we so eager to share pain with others why can't we just share the good times with others why do we reach out when we're in pain to others and when we are happy or content or just grinning we ignore others when we feel pain we rely on others when we feel pain we reach out to others when we feel pain we connect to others when we feel pain we sing out to others and if we're smiling to ourselves it's usually for a while before we find another face to share with our smile we take the berries we take the beauty and wrap it up in a blanket and carry it to our sleeping place carry it and put it under our pillow take the beauty and hold it to ourselves hold it to ourselves 'cause we don't want to share the beauty with anybody else but the minute the thorn pricks us we look around to others the minute we see blood instead of berries we turn to others when we feel pain we turn to others when we feel pain we rely on others when we feel pain we connect to others when we feel pain we smile at others when we feel pain we are nice to others when we feel pain we knock on the door of others and in our room and in our room when we are good we are alone and in our gloom we are alone when we feel pain we rely on others ugh that was painful embrace me

This is long, but ok. It's driving and kinda funky. This has what is probably the most appropriate fade point ever (for me at least).
Lyrics to "Going My Way":
this is what happens if you don't have anything this is what happens with everything seems to be going your way this is what happens with everything seems to be going your way 'cause everything is going my way everything is going my way i'm getting everything i say i want i'm getting everything i know i want everything is going my way the stress is fading away rhything "way" with "away" is a way to fill up time today everything is going my way i don't have to try very hard everything is going my way life is is is ok everything is going my way i have smile today everything is going my way i need to add overdubs to do this ok and if everything is going my way then why am i playing a guitar today and if everything is going my way why am i talking this way maybe there are stresses in the way of being completely ok everything is going my way everything is going my way everything is going my way everything is going my way [...] everything is going my way everything is coming my way everything is coming this way everything is coming this way everything is coming this way i am a little afraid everything is coming my way everything is coming my way everything is coming this way everything is coming my way here comes the train look out here comes the train everything is going my way look out here comes the train the train is bringing everything my way just don't get in the train's way just don't scare away the train i hope it's my train i hope it's my train and not just an express and not just an excess and not just an express that's heading west not that's heading west not everything is coming this way look out the train is coming this way it's bringing lots of goodies my way but you better look out or you'll get run over by the train i better look out or get run over by the train i want the train i want what's in the train i want the train i want what's in the train i want the train i want what's in the train i want the train i want what's in the train i want the train but i'm a little afraid i want the train but i am a little afraid if i create a part of a song doesn't matter if the song is short or long take the good parts and put them on a cd and call the thing trex that's my routine take the good parts keep them forever remember the good parts in any weather forget the bad parts or at least

This was an epic statement that creativity is essentially neotonic. If that's a word.
It's very catchy in parts, but sloppy in other parts. The song is so long, I really have no idea how to edit it. So I'm leaving it raw (minus the very beginning, which was pretty bad). The energy and enthusiasm dwindles towards the end, so I might make a shorter version later.
The vocals were heavily influenced by the band Suicide. As for the guitar, well, it's just 2 chords over and over.
Lyrics to "Neoteny":
i suck at both guitar and vocals i suck at both so how is it that i can occasionally create something that isn't so bad it isn't so bad and doesn't make you want to upchuck doesn't make you want to run away take the vocals and distort 'em until you find something that will sound ok take the simple rhythms and simple chords and find something that sounds ok take it all, take it all find something ok then distort it in your own way until you find something that's ok it's called never giving up it's called never giving up it's called never giving up it's called never giving up it's called never giving up it's called never giving up it's called never giving up it's called never giving up uh i say never giving up never never never give it up never never never give it up never never never give it up neoteny never give it up neoteny never give it up neoteny never give it up neoteny never give it up n e o t e n y never giving up [scat] imagine a 12 year old who picks up a guitar and picks it up and plucks the strings and plays something like this it's crappy it's sophomoric it's pre-sophomoric it's amateur it's juvenile it's ridiculous you can call it minimalist but i call it poopie poopie poopie poopie poop but i never give it up no i'll never give it up 'cause i know that sometimes it sounds ok and i know that the way to creativity is to never, never give it up never never never never never never never give it up never never give it up [scat] and the people say and travis why don't you just give up why don't you just give up but i say i never give it up you say travis you gotta grow up but i say no, i don't wanna give it up you say travis you gotta straighten up but i say no, i don't wanna give it up they say travis you gotta tighten up but i say no, i don't wanna travis, you've gotta lighten up and i say uh i do what i want and i'm not gonna ever do what you want if it doesn't coincide with what i want 'cause what i want is what i am gonna get i am never never never gonna i am never never never gonna no, i'm not ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever... grow up i won't ever grow up i'm, will i never grow up will i never grow completely up i will never grow completely up even when i'm 80 i won't be grown up even when i'm 90 i won't be grown up even when i'm dying i won't be growing up i'll still be a kid i won't ever give it up no no no i won't ever give it up neoteny i won't ever ever give it up neoteny i won't ever ever give it up tadpole tail i won't ever ever give it up tadpole tail i will never ever give it up they say travis, you've gotta grow up come on now, travis, you're 30, grow up come on now, travis, you've got a girlfriend, grow up and i say screw you guys forget you guys i don't know you guys i don't like you guys you guys just go away conform and be your sheep and bay just blaa blaa baa blaa blaa blaa baa blaa baa baa blaa blaa blaa blaa blob you're blobs you're all blobs you're just white blobs to me you're blobs you're all blobs bleating blobs to me you're blobs you're just blobs blaa blaa blobs to me and meanwhile i embrace this little word called neoteny and i might not pronounce it right and i might not be using it right but that's ok, that's all right because that is my word tonight i am using it and i might be abusing it but it's ok 'cause it using it in my way it's ok 'cause i'm doing things my way it's ok i'm a little-little-little-little off it's ok 'cause i forgive it it's ok 'cause i am living it it's ok if i make mistakes it's ok 'cause i have fun anyway it's ok if i take a wrong turn it's ok if i take the long way it's ok if i forget something it's ok if i waste a little bit of the tape on a wrong turn on a mistake on emotion on whatever on whatever is mine today on whatever's on my mind today i laugh at the end of the day other people can cry theirselves to sleep that didn't rhyme but that's ok 'cause what are you doing? you're just listening what are you doing? you're just listening what are you doing? you're just listening what are you doing? you're just listening it's ok it's ok we all sit to listen sometimes it's ok to listen a little bit every day to listen a little bit every day does that mean you just go your way after you listen or do you like to stay and think about what you have heard and think about the new word neoteny and neoteny neoteny neoteny and a tadpole tail neoteny and a tadpole tail neoteny and a tadpole tail neoteny and a tadpole tail i wear my umbilicus around my neck i wear my umbilicus around my neck neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's travis is singing and he's travis is singing and and travis is sitting and he's travis is singing and he's travis is singing and he can't think of a word that rhymes with tail when we does he'll complete it he'll complete the phrase and when we does it will ??? it neoteny travis is singing and he's neoteny travis is singing and neoteny and a tadpole tail neoteny and neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's feeling pretty well neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's feeling pretty swell neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's sounding pretty swell neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's feeling pretty swell neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's feeling pretty well neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's feeling pretty swell neoteny, i'm not ever gonna give it up neoteny, not ever gonna give it up neoteny, never gonna give it up neoteny [humming] travis, you're 30, you've gotta give it up travis, you're 30, you've gotta get a job travis, you're 30, you've gotta grow up travis, you're 30, you've gotta be a snob travis, you're 30, you've gotta have nice things travis, you're 30, you've gotta straighten up travis, you're 30, you've gotta wear wings travis, you're 30, whatever that means i'm 30 someday i'll be 40 and 50 and then the other numbers we all know our numbers but what we don't know is what if somebody doesn't wanna give up his playfulness what if someone doesn't wanna give up his childishness what if someone doesn't mind being a little sloppy and goofy and annoying and long-winded as long as he's creating something that he has the ability to improve into something that affects other people's moods into something that has an effect on me and you into something that can be entertaining too into something that might make you money one day so he can support himself on that and take a look at the other people working their day jobs working their day jobs working with slack jaws working their day jobs working with slack jaws working with slack jaws working with slack jaws working with i look at you and i see drool you look at me you call me fool i look at you i see gene pool you look at me you think i'm cool and then you look at me and you think pity i look at you and i see nothing nothing most people are obstacles to me just part of an obstacle course they are nothing more than hurdles they are nothing more than trees people are nothing more than trees people are nothing more than trees people are nothing more than trees most people are nothing more than trees most people are nothing more than trees most people are nothing more than trees most people are nothing more than trees you can call them sheep but i prefer to call them trees you can call them sheep but i prefer to call them trees neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's feeling pretty swell neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is creating and he's feeling pretty well neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's feeling pretty swell neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's feeling pretty swell neoteny and a tadpole tail travis is singing and he's feeling pretty swell neoteny and a tadpole tail ??? no never never gonna give it up no never not ever not ever gonna ever gonna ever gonna not ever so how can you take this song that's so long how can you take it and create something with it within these rules, how can you create something beautiful the rules are: this chord and this chord and this rhythm and no other rhythm just this chord and this chord over and over and over again over and over and over if you repeat these chords if you stay inside these lines if you repeat these chords if you stay inside these lines if you obey these rules can you create something that sounds unique something interesting that sounds unique something interesting do you have to leave the lines and do you have to break your rules and do you have to grow up and do you have to expand do you have to sacrifice the safety of those lines do you have to leave the lines do you have to grow up neoteny and the tadpole tail travis insists that he's feeling pretty well neoteny and the tadpole tail travis says he's doing pretty swell neoteny and the tadpole tail travis says he's feeling pretty well neoteny and the tadpole tail travis is singing and he's sounding pretty well neoteny and the tadpole tail travis is over there, doing pretty well neoteny and the tadpole tail maybe he knows something he can tell us neoteny and the tadpole tail travis says it's all about putting forth some effort and having faith and focus and a sense of loyalty to rules that have worked so far even when they are not getting us very far right now like this constraint of only having 2 chords like this constraint of only having 1 rhythm and 1 voice and 1 guitar sound and can you create something out of rules that are old, as old as you can you create something out of something simple as just 2 chords can you create something out of something as simple as just 2 chords can you create something something cool out of just 2 chords neoteny says yes oh neoteny says yes oh neoteny says yes and that means travis says yes i can create something out of only 2 chords i can create something out of only 2 chords neoteny says yes oh neoteny says yes neoteny says yes and i think neoteny's best neoteny and the tadpole tail travis is singing and he's sounding pretty swell neoteny and the tadpole tail travis insists that he's doining pretty well neoteny and the tadpole tail my ear's buzzing so i gotta stop playing soon neoteny and the tadpole tail will the ear prevent me from sticking to my rules will the ear prevent me from sticking to my rules will my ear pretect me from sticking to my rules will the??? will the ear prevent me from sticking to my rules will the ear prevent me from sticking to my rules no it won't, 'cause i won't let no it won't, 'cause i won't let no it won't, 'cause i'm not gonna let it no it won't, 'cause i'm not gonna get it no it won't, 'cause i'm not gonna get it no it won't, 'cause i'm not gonna get it no it won't, 'cause i'm not gonna get it no it won't, 'cause i'm not gonna get it no it won't, 'cause i'm not gonna get it no it won't, 'cause i'm not gonna let it no it won't, 'cause i'm not gonna net it just 2 notes but i'm ok at it can you just play 2 notes and create something that's interesting can you play just 2 notes and create something that's interesting can you play 2 notes and think you are creating something interesting can you play 2 notes and convince yourself that you're doing a good thing can you take 2 notes and create something that's interesting can you take 2 notes and create something that is interesting [scat] i am almost done with this tape it's pretty crappy but that's ok i am almost done with the tape [scat] [scat] so when i'm 80 and only can play 2 notes at least i'll be playing the same 2 note i'm 80 and i'm just playing 2 notes but it's still fun for me i like playing the notes that's the point having fun of being creative protective hmm that's ok just have fun [scat] [scat] ok you've gotta say goodbye 'cause the tape is gonna go go bye bye neoteny wins goodbye bye bye bye
