Notes
This is the fourth batch of songs for my cousin Kim. It was recorded on three separate days in January 1988.
The first two (the 26th and 27th) were snow days (no school). Despite all the free time I had at my disposal, I seemed to rush through everything. Perhaps the boredom and hyperness ruined my concentration?
On the third day (the 28th) I had school. It must have focused my mind a bit, because the resulting two songs are by far the best ones on here.
Songs
Elanthis Intro
- Kim 4 track 1
- recorded: 1988-01-26

Boring intro, except for the elanthis reference. That would be a good word to describe my music.
Lyrics to "Elanthis Intro":
there's all these trees called elanthis trees and they grow right under the power line and every year they go clear them out but they grow real fast and they're interesting this is a song that i wrote i am having no luck with the mixer because i don't have a tape recorder to play into it hey the music i hear the music see, listen i hear music i don't want to hear that music i wanna hear my music ok, so anyways i don't know what this is called i just wrote down "excerpt from a future song" well, this is gonna be rough
Excerpt from a Future Song
- Kim 4 track 2
- recorded: 1988-01-26
- location: Charlottesville
- length: 1:39
- Travis Emmitt - Casio CT-310, vocals
- mp3: download listen locally (flash player)(HTML5 player)
Zero preparation. It's funny how disappointed I was to receive a phone call. Creating music almost always took precedence over friends. Nice pep, though.
Lyrics to "Excerpt from a Future Song":
hit it 1 2 3 4 what? who is it? oh i got facialed [scat] let's start this over one again [scat] we're really moving [scat] sorry i forget my lyrics i forget my lyrics, what what i should i be singing? i forget i don't have them written down not all of them oh my goodness let me remember let me play some music for you while i remember
Disregard Me
- Kim 4 track 3
- recorded: 1988-01-26
- location: Charlottesville
- length: 12:39
- Travis Emmitt - Casio CT-310, vocals
- mp3: download listen locally (flash player)(HTML5 player)
This is very long and slow. It starts off as an improv and then incorporates some previously written lyrics. The words are pretty lame for the most part, although the theme of desiring isolation ties in with the phone call aversion in the previous song ("Except from a Future Song").
Lyrics to "Disregard Me":
your acting is not so brilliant if you're putting up a screen i say i can see right through it i know exactly what you mean you can say what you want what i will not take it badly you can say it if you want to but i will not take you seriously you can say what you want but i will not take you badly you can say what you want but i will not take you seriously you can say what you want i don't run your life you can say what you want about me you can say what you want but i will not take it badly you can say what you want but i will not take you seriously you can say what you want i will not take it badly you can say what you want but i will not take you seriously your acting's not so brilliant if you're putting up a screen i can see right through it i know exactly what you mean hit it --- just disregard me everyone else does that sometime you'll find my flaw so back off now while you're still safe of the very few people who have stepped into this trap not even one has had the decency to look back i seem to always be left in the dust people like to leave me out to rust i'm just here to be humbled, to be trampled, pushed aside life for me has certainly been one long, bumpy ride so disregard me everybody else does that sometime you'll find my flaw so back off now while you're still safe there's no rules for rhyming i can say what i want even if rhyme it doesn't disregard me - you can consider me a fool it's much safer that way - keep yourself cool i'm late in growing up - that's all i can say i've got to learn that it won't happen overnight i'm late in growing up - that's all i can say but it doesn't mean that you can't be polite do my antics turn you off do you want to turn and hide do you want to just escape or to know what is inside so you don't have to tell me i'm pathetic my personality is close to nill but soon you will get used to ignoring me or being polite to keep your conscience still just to keep your conscience still so disregard me - i'm sayin' it's okay why wait until another day it will not hurt me if you don't want to stay i don't give up, so i'll love you anyway ok, stay, come what may you may stay all day anyway it's not up to me now can't you see? some day my time will come and i'll finally be safe safe to talk and laugh with as a friend and i'll be pushing others out of my way if you aren't repulsed by my looks when you first see me then disregard me - i'm not worth a second glance don't waste your time with me, that's all i say to you in me there is no romance let me remain invisible i'll work things out on my own leave me by myself, can you do that isolation is my warmest home just disregard me that's all i ask just disregard me no there's nothing behind my mask just disregard me disregard me - don't waste your time for you a dozen boys they stand in a line our friendship will last as long as snow in hell no, i don't think it will work out very well no, i don't think it will work out very well i feel i am not worth your while so pardon me if i don't smile i don't want to encourage you if that's possible for me to do i feel i am not worth your while so pardon me if i don't smile i don't want to encourage you if it's possible for me to do not worth your while disregard me, i'm telling you still if you walk with me, it's all up hill disregard me, i'm telling you still if you walk with me, it's all up hill disregard me, i'm telling you still if you walk with me, it's all up hill disregard me - don't waste your time for you a dozen boys they stand in a line please let me remain invisible i'll work things out on my own please leave me by myself, that's all I ask isolation is my worst, oh god i messed that up i destroyed it this song has no meaning since i destroyed that verse i turned it backwards, i murdered it i've made it worse so disregard me, that's all i ask there is nothing behind this mask disregard me, i have my flaws disregard me, i have my flaws singing, disregard me disregard me, you consider me a fool it's safer that way; keep yourself cool disregard me, you consider me a fool it's safer that way; just keep yourself cool do my antics turn you off do you want to turn and hide do you want to just escape or do you want to know what is inside of me, girl what a way to screw this up what a way to make it a mess what a way to murder that verse who could do better, possibly jess? oh no! so disregard me, i am saying it's ok why wait until another day it will not hurt me if you don't want to stay i don't give up so i'll love you anyway i don't give up so i'll love you anyway i tried to find the meaning in this verse oh my god that really made it worse oh my god i really have lost my charm my touch, out my arm ooh gosh, ooh gosh i just hope my mistakes appear funny if they don't then i will earn no money disregard me, consider me a fool leave me alone, consider me a fool oh my gosh, eh! wooh yeah come on let's hear it, let's hear it, yeah come on everybody now come on everybody

Blabbing about my broken wrist, and then whatever came through my head. There was no school that day. I was very hyper.
I kept trying to play "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" but failed miserably.
Lyrics to "Restless Raindrops Clatter":
oh well, not all songs are winners ouch, my wrist is killing me ow, i'm in pain i can't move it without it feeling like, ow it's sore i think i bumped it whenever i bump it, it swells up and it becomes tight like it is now if i like move it in any way it hurts from when i broke it, of course i can't even think when i'm playing it's addictive i'm gonna put my drumsticks down there we go, well i'll play on my bible no, not a keyboard, that sounds awful let me turn the keyboard off thinking, i'm thinking, i'm still thinking, yeah ouch drumsticks go flying everywhere 1 2 1 2 3 4 [scat] yeah the mood is no school today mood my room's a mess well anyways yeah um i'll right some more songs and if i don't then you just fill up the rest of the tape with your talking that's a good idea, i think you should just sit down on the piano and practice: raindrops keep falling on my head [scat] raindrops keep falling on my head [scat] yeah yes, i have the technique that destroys any song that i'm wanting to play raindrops keep falling on my head no, ooh

This starts off noisy, then gets fast, then has lots of annoying drumming. I was very hyper. There's no quality control. Actually, no quality, period.
After a while I got bored, and smeared mousse all over the microphone.
Lyrics to "Mousse Mess":
oh mama please get off of the piano you're hurting my ears mama, you don't know what you are doing 1 2 1 2 3 4 yeah, this is me on bass guitar; can't you hear me? Fast and kinda pointless, but at least I was playing the keyboard instead of banging on the tupperware.
Lyrics to "White Out":
man there's white out on the microphone i can't remember so i'm just gonna play

This is the original version. It sounds nothing like the Anchovies version. I like the latter better.
My notes say that I wrote this "at work".
Lyrics to "Don't Disregard Me":
INTRO: this is don't disregard me january 26th 1988 blaa blaa blaa will you understand me when i say i'm in a fit? my life is left in shambles and i feel like i should quit will you understand me when i say i'm in a fit? my life is left in shambles and i feel like i should quit VERSE 1: will you understand me when i say i'm in a fit? my life is left in shambles and i feel like i should quit will you still respect me when i ask for your advice? do you think you'll turn away or will you still be nice? VERSE 2: the one thing that i ask of you is will you love me still? or will you just ignore me and pretend you're feeling ill? if i'm turning left then must, must you always turn right? how long will you ignore me, keeping me up so late at night? CHORUS: please don't disregard me i goofed but don't let this be the end please don't disconsider me i know you're hurt but try to stay my friend VERSE 3: i wonder if my courage failed when i first said "hello?" and i forgot to tell you that there's something you should know i get a little shy when there is something i must ask i thought you'd get upset when i must take away my mask i'm not at all the guy you met when you first saw me blush i'm not so cool but more a fool when it comes all in a rush you were standing next to me when i happened, happened to cough it was small at first then it got worse and then my head fell off! CHORUS: please don't disregard me i goofed but please don't let this be the end be the end, be the end, be the end singing please don't disregard me i goofed but please don't let this be the end please don't disconsider me i know you're hurt but try to stay my friend VERSE 4: everyone has his secrets that he keeps to his own self we all are so different; no one's perfect as an elf i must admit i hid it from you for a long time that i'm not really human - except maybe in mind so don't you fret if i forget that you don't like surprise excuse me if i scare you when i'm taking out my eyes or if you see my washing off my heart with the above does not mean that i can't feel or that i cannot love CHORUS: please don't disregard me i goofed but please don't let this be the end please don't disconsider me i know you're hurt but try to stay my friend

It was time to go to sleep. I had to stop making music. My dad interrupted me. I was whiny at first, but then funny.
It's funny that my ears were so annoyed by the faint sound distant music, yet I had no problem making my own loud racket at 10:30 at night.
The skit is something I wrote on the back of the lyrics for "Don't Disregard Me".
Lyrics to "Bedtime Chatter":
TRAV: dad, i was right in the middle i mean i was at the end DAD: it's 10:30 you had a long time for this stuff now it's 10:30 TRAV: it's not my bedtime DAD: it's her bedtime TRAV: but she's not asleep DAD: can i go to sleep you gotta be quiet TRAV: get daffy out DAD: daffy TRAV: i'll spray her with the mousse that's the only way i can get her out i'll spray her with the mousse DAD: what's wrong with her being in here? what's she gonna do? TRAV: because she's a pain she comes up and she drags everything out from under there daffy, do you want mousse DAD: come on, daffy, come on let's go TRAV: here make her smell this she remembers it DAD: come here, come here TRAV: smell it DAD: come on, quick, come on daffy TRAV: daffy, smell the mousse DAD: come here, daffy come on, quick [leaves] TRAV: ahh i know, i'm dying, i'm dying here's a skit i wrote it doesn't require any music so it don't count as being loud ok it's a conversation that really did happen it's between jessica and me i think it's funny; you might not but ok Jessica: come on, travis; help me stretch out the trash bags Travis: no Jessica: i'll pay you money Travis: how much? Jessica: 50 cents Travis: i'm not stupid Jessica: then 75 cents Travis: i'm not stupid. Jessica: a dollar Travis: i'm not stupid Jessica: 2 Travis: i'm not stupid Jessica: 2.50 Travis: i'm not stupid Jessica: 3 Travis: i'm still not stupid Jessica: 3.50 Travis: i'm not stupid Jessica: 4 Travis: i'm not stupid Jessica: 4.50 Travis: i'm not stupid Jessica: 5 Travis: i'm not stupid Jessica: 6 Travis: i'm not stupid Jessica: well then, 10 Travis: warmer Jessica: 50 Travis: warmer Jessica: 100 Travis: getting closer Jessica: 1000 Travis: almost Jessica: a million Travis: okay, deal, shake hands dad, jessica owes me a million dollars Jessica: yes, *if* you help me stretch out the trash bags Travis: i'm not stupid that's the end of my skit that really did happen it's hard to believe that something as entertaining as that happened in my life something as storybook as that happened in my life yes, there is excitement sometimes in my life it's not all boring how do you like listening to my father? i bet he just blew you away with all those real difficult words like "daffy" and "bedtime" all those really grown-up works bedtime, it's beddy time i hate that stupid music do i have to talk like this to make it stay away ouch man, my fingers are torn up, they're terrible i can't open a drawer because the keyboard's in the way i'm not saying i'm an architect i certainly don't know how to manage my room see, open one drawer and the other one opens because they're cheap wait, wait wait wait i'm stuffing my clothes in the wrong drawer let's try this one; yes, that opens easier stuff them all in there every one of them clothes, more clothes, and even more clothes finally, you know what, in finally brought home gym clothes disgusting, i know, that's me no you know that song one of the few that was clever and demented so i call it, either demer or clevented i like to call it clavented cleverented; i rented it cleverly ha ha ha, such a trip i bet you wish you could joke as well as i right can you hear the music now; it just comes on anyways i gotta go it's like 10:47 at night
On and On

This has some really weird distorted keyboard improvs. The lyrics are odd too.
My lyrics says I started this on 1988-01-13 but the vocals and tape notes say I wrote it on 1988-01-26. I'll pick the latter, because it makes the most sense.
Lyrics to "On and On":
no school today, ha ha this one's called on and on and on and it's terrible but i wrote it last night while i was trying to get to sleep some people like to tease me about my hair if that's be best they can do then they better be aware because i'm wicked with my wit i always keep my head i'm brilliant with retorts you'd better off be dead they say they'll cut me down so low i'll have to use my shoelace as a toothpick i say: same to you same to you same to you i tell you i have wrath you're in my path you call me queer that's a reason to fear they say: frankenstein is prettier than you i say: is that the best that you can do? they say: you're a big bed-wetter i say: can't you do better? your face is big league chew i say: do you need me to teach you? they say: your face makes my stomach churn i say: boys, that's better, but you've got a lot to learn singing you've gotta learn to cut me down and you must learn soon, so like now now, now, now i have wrath you're in my path you call me queer that's a reason to fear they say i have wrath and you're in my path you call me queer that's a reason to fear they say: frankenstein is prettier than you i say: is that the best that you can do? they say: you're a big bed-wetter i say: can't you do better? they say: your face is big league chew i say: do you need me to teach you? your face makes my stomach churn i say: boys, that's better, but still you've got a lot to learn saying oh wow, that was on and on and it could have gone on and on more if i had written more lyrics last night

Lyrics to "Waiting for an Intro":

Although it has a different name, this was effectively a remake of "Waiting for Ian to Call Back" (from Guitarded). It's a lot sloppier, with little redeming value.
This is why I don't do many remakes.
Lyrics to "Waiting for a Call":
oh god, that was murdered that was murdered

I was more interested in "finishing" lyrics than making a decent song. The music is dominated by my fiddling with the preset drums.
Lyrics to "Resolution":
this is a song that i have the lyrics to and i need to just sing the lyrics once and i can put it in the box, ok i just got to start all over gotta get my life back on the track gonna fix my ways and make improvements and to my old life, i'm gonna turn my back gonna make some changes gonna turn my life around gonna improve my personality gonna get myself up off the ground making resolutions i hope they pull through making resolutions making them for you i have the amazing ability to withstand enormous amounts of pain i have the amazing ability to withstand enormous amounts of pain i'm just gonna start all over gotta get my life back on the track gonna fix my ways and make my improvements and to my old life, i'm gonna turn my back singing gonna make some changes gonna turn my life around gonna improve my personality gonna pick myself up off the ground gonna make some changes gonna turn my life around gonna pick myself up off the ground gonna make some changes gonna make some changes gonna make some changes gonna make some changes [repeat] i just got to start all over gotta turn my life around i have the amazing ability to withstand enormous amounts of pain i have the amazing ability now do i have to tell you this again i just got to start all over gotta get my life back on the track gonna fix my ways and make improvements and to my old life, i'm gonna turn my back gonna make some changes gonna turn my life around improve my personality gonna pick myself up off the ground pick myself up off the gonna make some changes gonna turn my life around gonna improve my personality gonna pick myself up off the ground gonna make some changes gonna make some changes gonna make some changes gonna turn my life around gonna pick myself up off the ground gonna pick myself up off the ground [repeat] this song is dead

This is a moody story about domestic violence. It's not autobiographical in the slighest. I probably wrote it for a girl I knew.
I like the texture. It's very subdued, and whispery. Atypical and kinda cool!
Lyrics to "Full House":
this is called full house and this is take one it has very few lyrics but i like it i like the idea in the middle of the day the dog is chasing the cat who is chasing the mouse sister packs her bags and asks for the car so she can move out of the house mother and father are screaming at each other and suddenly a pot smashes against the wall and brother is so drunk that he's lying in the corner of the hall so she cries she cries when she can't go to johnny's house all because of a mouse it was the middle of june and i was stuck up in my room there was screaming in the hall and i didn't like it at all dishes were hitting the floor someone pulled a knife from the kitchen drawer the yells of hatred turned to anguish then to horror and to fright so i opened my window and escaped into the night so she cries she cries when she can't go to johnny's house all because of a mouse it was the middle of june and i was stuck in my room there was screaming in the hall i didn't like it at all dishes were hitting the floor someone pulled a knife from the kitchen drawer the yells of hatred they turned to anguish then to horror and to fright so i opened my window and escaped into the night so she cries she cries when she can't get a ride to johnny's house to stay stay in this house there's got to be another way it's a full house we can do just as well without her it's a full house she hates it when her parents doubt her she wants them to show some confidence in her as a human being she wants them to notice her to love her but it's a full house it can operate as well without her it's a full house and her parents always doubt her they always fight on into the night they always battle they always fight it was the middle of june and i was stuck up in my room there was screaming in the hall and i didn't like that at all dishes were hitting the floor someone pulled a knife from the kitchen drawer the yells of hatred they turned to anguish then to horror and to fright so i opened my window and escaped into the night so she cries she cries when she can't get a ride to johnny's house to johnny house all because of a little mouse they fight into the night in the middle of the day the dog is chasing the cat who is chasing the mouse sister packs her bags and asks for the car so she can move out mother and father are screaming at each other and suddenly a pot smashes against the wall my brother is so drunk that he's lying in the corner of the hall they fight into the night horror and fright they fight into the night cries of fright they fight into the night cries of fright they fight into the night cries cries into the night cries into the night they fighting through the night fighting through the night fighting through the night so she cries when she can't get a ride to go to johnny's house all because of a little mouse they fight

This is the original version of what become one of the most-recorded IPECAC songs. The music is totally different, and is very slow. I kinda like it.
Lyrics to "Share Peace and Love":
INTRO: this one is called share peace and love and i'm probably gonna mess it up because it's my first time recording it ok, give me a break hit it hit it VERSE 1: i just wanna have a good time i don't wanna know what is mine why can't the world just learn to share? it would eliminate war and make life so fair just think of a world full of peace all those confrontations would cease no more bombs would rake the earth no more children dead at birth VERSE 2: instead of locking armies we'd lock lips each day we'd take a million pleasure trips we'd kiss and hug for the rest of our lives who says we can't have four or five wives? the fear of death would soon be unfelt and the leaders' iron hearts would soon melt the shadow of war would be lifted from us all and we'd tear down with our hands that last wall VERSE 3: we'd be united, yet liberated emancipated, yes, all that and free we'd live together, sleep together so many things we'd see we'd love each other, one another no enemies this far along and then we'd join everyone to sing my worldwide song CHORUS: we gotta share, make peace, and love we can't rely on aid from god above we need to talk, to laugh, and sing but most of all we've got to learn to be free but most of all we've got to learn to be free but most of all we've got to learn to be free but most of all ... free CHORUS: we gotta share, make peace, and love we can't rely on aid from above we need to talk, to laugh, and sing but most of all we've got to learn to be free

End of tape-chatter, trying to anticipate the moment the tape runs out. Mildly amusing.
Lyrics to "False Stop Chatter":
bye bye; there's not much time left ok, bye, well, yeah, bye wait, it's not going yet bye wait, it's not going yet bye, bye it's not going yet bye wait, it's not going yet bye it's not going yet, though bye bye bye bye byte, it's going, bye
