Trex - Dad Day Jam

This opens up my jam session on Dad's birthday 2001. It's melodic and moody, but also pretty sloppy and short. It takes a while to get going, but is decent at setting the mood for the rest of the session. I faded out before the notes got really bad.

This is a longer follow-up to "Dad Day Noodle 1". It has some bad notes at the start, but then smoothes out into a decent melodic improv. It does a pretty good job of capturing my mood during that trip.

I don't know what I was saying in the beginning.

The ending is kinda cheesy.

This was an attempt to play a hard rock riff on piano. Don't laugh! It's sloppy, but conveys the idea pretty well. At least for the first few seconds. But then it becomes rambling and pointless, pretty painful actually.

I was introducing my second attempt at hard rock on piano.

This is a sequel to "Dad Day Rock 1". It's a little tighter. A little. Still slop-city in my book. It also sounds bored. Why did I bother digitizing this? I don't remember.

This is fast but monotonous. I think this was supposed to represent my Mom's day job, which is part-time bookkeeping.

This is a mumbling explanation of the next song ("Boring Cycle").

Snore. This doesn't sound nearly as interesting as the intro suggested. It gets impatient at the end, which is how I feel when listening to it. I don't know what I was saying near the beginning.

More mumble mumble about the "sophisticated" cycle song, which puts me to sleep.

More cycling, more snoring. No amount of analysis will make this sound cool to me.

Long and hit-and-miss in terms of melody vs boringness. There are some really sour notes in here, but some decent moments too. Par for Trex.

I was getting ready to move from Charlottesville to Bellingham. This song start off as an instrumental, but then I spontaneously started singing about the upcoming move. The music is slop-city but the mood is positive.

Boring, nondescript. Never gets going.

Introducing "Slow Nap 2".

Same thing as "Slow Nap 1", minus the sustain pedal. Still just as boring and pointless.

Rhythmic mumbling about stiff fingers.

Another short-ish boring-ish semi-improv. I was in bad need of something memorable and inspiring and these little ideas just weren't cutting it. Towards the end this starts getting better, though. And then promptly loses it again.

Muddy, boring. The ending is horrible.

Wow, finally, something bouncy and fun! Unfortunately, I messed up, started talking, sped up, and ended it abruptly.

Zzz. Very long and uneventful. Same old ideas that you've heard many times before.

More sleepy noodling. Laborious.

Dorky. Starts light but gets sludgy.

Choppy. Not too cool. Artsy fartsy minus the artsy.

Random noodling exercise. With talking to rationalize the lameness.

Short, sloppy boogie-woogie.

This is the first instrumental take of a birthday song for my Dad. Lots of mistakes, but the main idea is there.

I re-recorded this song for Tripecac in 2007, calling the new version "Dad Day Ditty".

Slow, with vocals. It starts off very slow and rough, but I gradually get into it.
