Notes

I'd say "one more for today" while continuing to play, long past the point of diminished returns. Meanwhile, my dictaphone was breaking down, so I switched to 4-track.

Most of the songs are about the gear; the rest are silly or crude. No gems here.

Songs

I Don't Know

Soft noodling, experimenting with different chords. Kinda cool, in a mellow, repetitive, background sort of way.

Lyrics to "I Don't Know":

today is april 10th
it's 12:17, something like that

not much talent in these fingers, eh?

[scat]

i don't know
???
i don't, i don't know
where i'm gonna go
i don't know
i don't know
i don't know
i don't know
i don't know
i don't know
i don't know
i don't know
no i don't know

where i'm gonna go
i know the music is slow
it really blows
getting vertigo

my fingers are getting sore
can't do this for much more
bet you want to show me the door
or put me on the floor

i'm a bore
hard to adore
blaa blaa bore
blaa blaa bore

blaa blaa bore

Pun Crocker

This repetitive, sloppy, and effects-dependent jam doesn't really offer anything new. The sporatic, obligatory-feeling vocal outbursts don't add anything either.

Lyrics to "Pun Crocker":

1 2 3 4
ha ha ha ha
punk rocker
betty crocker

that was horrible

Scandanavian Blood

This starts as more aimless noodling, but then gets kinda funny. The guitar work isn't too bad.

Lyrics to "Scandanavian Blood":

that's what i get for trying to combine the tremolo
with a tempo that i don't know

waiting for the laundry
to finish
i am 1/8 german
and 1/8 finnish

waiting for the laundry, 1/8 finnish
waiting for the laundry, 1/8 finnish
waiting for the laundry, 1/8 finnish

are you proud of your heritage
do you know your heritage
until a couple months ago i didn't even know
that i had some close scandanavian blood

i like to drink scandanavian blood
i like to drink scandanavian blood
i like to be scandanavian brood
i like to be scandanavian rude

i like to be scandanavian blood
i like to lick up my scandanavian blood
i like to be scandanavian blood
1/8 finnish

100% ???
1/8 finnish
just like linus

i like scandanavian ???
i like my scandanavian blood
i like scandanavian blood
i like my scandanavian blood

who cares that scandanavians cannot play guitar
who cares that they don't know how to colonize places from afar
i like my scandanavian blood

Scandanavian Blood 2

Wow, when I say bass I mean bass! You'll have to listen to the song to know what I'm talking about. I couldn't sustain the idea.

Lyrics to "Scandanavian Blood 2":

this is called scandanavian blood part 2
it sounds eerily like the first rendition
eerily i say

somewhere across the see there lives an island named asian
and on this island called asia there lives a people named
the scandanavian blood
the scandanavian blood

i got no bass; where's the bass?

my band sucks

Scare the Old Ladies

The guitar part was evidently difficult enough to use up all my brain cells, because the language part of my brain certainly wasn't working!

Lyrics to "Scare the Old Ladies":

scare the old ladies
scare the old ladies
scare the little old ???
make them run away

scare the old ladies
and scare the children
make them run away
make them run away

scare the old ladies
scare the old ladies
scare the old ladies
make them run away

scare the old ladies
scare the old ladies
scare the old ladies
make them walk away

scare the old ladies

scare the old ladies
they're nosy anyway
scare the old ladies
they just

scare the old ladies
they're nosy anyway
scare the old ladies
they just get in the way

scare the little children
they just
scare the little children
they just get in the way

scare the little children
oh
scare the old ladies
they're nosy anyway

scare the old ladies
they just get in the way
scare the little children

scare the old ladies
they just are in the way
scare the little children

scare the old ladies

scare the old ladies
they just get in the way
scare the little children
and then pretend it is a play

scare the old ladies
they just ???
scare the old ladies

that is so hard on my wrist

Battery

Wow, what a epic! It's kinda funny ode to a battery that I was using to strum. For me, the most impressive part is that after the long spoken-word part in the middle, I actually managed to return to the orginal idea! I soon blew it after that, but it's neat to hear that recovery.

Lyrics to "Battery":

one more song 'cause i'm running out of tape
and i actually don't have any tapes left after this one

i'm gonna play with the battery

battery running out
battery

battery running out
what are we
battery running out
what are we ???

battery running out
why are you mad at me
why do you pout, why do you pout

battery why do you pout
battery why do i shout
battery

battery bad bad bad bad

12:40 why am i not working
12:43 why am i playing guitar
12:43 why am i alone in here
12:43 why am i not playing with the new computer

you think it would fascinate me for days
why am i forsaking it?

'cause i have creativity running out my mouth
creativity overflowing
creativity or at least
energy

battery why won't you run out
battery why are you
still here with me my battery
battery, what happened to reverb

we all wonder
god this is
this has really fallen, this song
what happened to it

i'm gonna put the battery down
'cause i think it sucks

battery you're gone now
i can do just fine with
no battery, my fingers can play better in time
than battery you were dragging me now

i am okay now
i'm okay now
i just don't feel like playing

i'm okay now
i'm okay now
i'm okay now

with my battery
my fingers are doing fine
battery, i don't need you all the time
battery, you were option

battery, battery, battery, battery
frankly i don't need you battery
i don't need no stinking juice
i don't need no energy augmentation

battery, laying there innocently
battery, i wonder what you're thinking

i'm starting to
get a little fatigued of all this thinking i do
i'm starting to feel
that maybe my sking is beginning to peel

where's that battery? you protected me
from my own excess energy
battery, where are you
while my fingers start to bleed

where's the battery inside me?
where's the
what do you call it
the thing on the bus that makes it go a certain speed or less
oh i remember, it's the governor
here we go

governor, battery
governor schwartzenegger
governor, will we

i'm starting to get tired
i'm starting to get tired
i'm starting to get tired
i'm starting to get

and then everything is quiet for a while
the muse is worn out
laying against some stones in the dust
worn out, dripping headband
??? ruffled up shorts, socks
exhausted muse
in the hot california dust
schwarzenegger looks over at the muse
and says get up you lazy bum, get off your lazy bum
don't you like my accent?
somewhere a siren goes off
and then even the siren begins to lose juice
'cause it's so hot and dusty that nothing wants to move today
like a ticking of a clock winding down
everything's battery is slowing down
battery slowing down now
the earth twitches in unison with the slowing hands of the clock
the artsy-fartsy muse farts in her sleep
that wasn't very appropriate
i know, i'm getting tired
i can't think of anything else to say, can you?
no, let's just go to sleep and think about it
let's sleep on it
let's sleep on it
finally one note heralds a new beginning
as from the ashes of the phoenix in california
arnold schwarzenegger's spawn of guitar robbing lightbulb
sings out to all the world
hey i found a new

battery, that is right
i thought that you would never come back to me after than night
battery, it turns out i missed you
you helped me more than i ever knew

when i was by myself
i tried to convince myself that i was ok
sure i had a little surge of manic energy
but you know after a while it went away

and now
battery, i'm glad that you're back
i can't sustain this all day
battery, i'm glad you're here with me
we both like this this way

we both like it this way
this is the best thing

fade out before you get to that point obviously
obviously

Warble Marble

This next day started with more dull chatter and more dull guitar noodling.

Lyrics to "Warble Marble":

i'm noticing the tape has lots of warble
i need to buy cassettes, buy them in bulk you know
today's the 11th of april
buy bulk cassettes so that i can record about 1 a week, ha ha
imagine 52 trex per year
i shouldn't even be recording to the tape
i should be recording directly into the computer if you think about it

warble
marble
warble
marble

warble

warble
marble
warble
marble

warble
marble
warble
terrible

All the Nuances

More awful noodle-jamming with dumb lyrics. I guess I was getting tired of the problems with the dictaphone. Soon after, I started recording with 4-track instead.

Lyrics to "All the Nuances":

all right, 1 more and then i really got to go back to work
i always say that, don't i?
that's my mantra or womantra
shoot i just lost a tack, how tacky

the dictaphone doesn't pick up
all the nuances
all the nuances

the dictaphone doesn't pick up
all the nuances

the dictaphone doesn't pick up

the dictaphone doesn't pick up
the dictaphone doesn't pick up
all the nuances

the dictaphone doesn't pick up

the dictaphone doesn't pick up
all the nuances

the dictaphone doesn't pick up
all the nuances

Where is the Beat

This picks up right where the last one ("All the Nuances") left off. Same sound effects, same key.

Lyrics to "Where is the Beat":

all the ??? are there
we do this sort of stuff all the time
'cause i've heard some do not like this time of music
there's no rhythm, no beat

where's the beat, where's the beat, where's the beat, where's the beat
where's the beat, where's the beat, where's the beat, where's the
where's the beat, where's the beat, where's the beat, where's the beat
where's the beat [scat]

this ain't no feat
without a beat
don't tap my feet
'cause this ain't got a beat

i never tap my feet
if it ain't got a beat
this ain't no feat
'cause it ain't got a beat

where is the beat
where is the beat
where is the beat
where is the beat

only a little bit of time left and i'll save that for another day
or at least another minute

Another Minute

I couldn't resist recording yet again that day. And this is the result. It's very warbly. And very dumb. But at least it's an instrumental.

Lyrics to "Another Minute":

same day
yikes

Consumable Advantage

Finally done with the tape!

Lyrics to "Consumable Advantage":

i think that's it
that's the end of the side
and i don't have another tape after this
i need to order another one
i always forget to order them
i almost would prefer to have something digital
although that would encourage me to just record more and more and more...
there's an advantage to having consumable tapes
well, theoretically there is

Only Testing

Since the dictaphone was breaking down, I switched to 4-track. This is the first of many, many songs I recorded for the rest of the year on 4-track. It's not very good, more of a test than anything.

Lyrics to "Only Testing":

i am only testing
i am only testing
yes i am only testing
my recording setup

i'm only testing
i am only testing
i am only testing
my recording setup

My New Setup

This is kinda mindless jamming.

Lyrics to "My New Setup":

all right, this is on 4 track
i don't know why trex needs to be on 4-track but my dictaphone is warbly
so warbly yes it's driving me crazy
today is the april 11th of 2007

i'm
i'm using my new setup
i
i'm messing up

i'm using my setup
i

that's awful

Long Lunch Break

This is a simple instrumental, repetitive and dumb. The lyrics are continuation of those in the last song ("My New Setup").

Lyrics to "Long Lunch Break":

i'm abusing my new setup
i'm back to wasting tape
i'm taking a long lunch break
and my my fingers hurt

Point

This epic starts off slow and quiet, but gets interesting when the vocals kick in. It collapses after a few minutes, and then rebuilds itself into a completely different pattern which doesn't sound too bad. But not too good either.

Lyrics to "Point":

just because you have a 4-track
doesn't mean your talent's coming back
just because you put up the dictaphone
doesn't mean your talent's coming home

case in point

just because you have 2 microphones
doesn't mean your writer's block will leave you alone
just because you have 4 tracks to play with
doesn't mean you'll be any better at improvising

case in point
case in point
case in point

just because you have two and half studios
and tons of musical gear
just because you're getting a little bit more talented
at organizing your routine doesn't mean

that you will create anything that is worth hearing

oh case in point
i have no point
case in point
i do annoint myself the man with no case in point

somethings start to crumble
if you stare at them long enough
and other things begin to grow
if you give them a wee touch

i had no idea what my muse needs
does she need attention or does she need space
i don't know where the muse is gonna go
if i always chase her all over the place

i was about to say where's my muse
but there's another better song with that title
i'd rather not pollute it
the fact is all words are just reorganizations of letters
and all sentences are just organizations of words
i've probably said that before
and i've probably said this before
so the question is why do i persist
in keeping the tape recorder on
that's a good question
i really don't know the answer
'cause my hand's getting tired
i think i'll go back to the original idea but that
that's a bad idea
if i go back to the other ??? song
i might feel compelled to treat this as a bridge
i think it's better to just let this peter out
'cause frankly i don't think it ain't got no peter
it ain't got no peter

this is a peterless song
this is a peterless song
it won't go on very long
'cause it's a peterless song

and it's a meterless song
and it's a meterless song
i know it's 4/4 time
but i don't care

'cause it's a peterless song
oh it's a peterless song
i don't know if it's got
a peter or a haakon

oh it's a peterless song
oh it's a peterless song
it's a peterless song
it's a peterless song

transcribing these lyrics into words
on a computer screen will it be any fun
i think i will just say i will parse this someday
and call it a day

writing all these words down
just seems such a waste of time
especially since they get
so little studio time

transcribing all these words
just seems such a waste of energy
especially
'cause they come from me

what's the point
what's the point
what's the point of playing on

what's the point
what's the point
what's the point
that's the question

'cause it's a peterless song
oh it's a peterless song
oh where is the haakon
oh it's a peterless song

oh it's a peterless song

it's a peterless song

yes
that's right
it doesn't make any sense any more

the pod pro does all the work
my hands just begin to work
and this is really pathetic
that's right it is

'cause it's a peterless song

feel free to file
this under pending deletion

i know it sounded really wordy and awkward
you see, i was trying to rhyme
i'll try to say it more cleverly

peterless song
this is a peterless song
this is a peterless song
peterless song

see it's hard to say all those words
less song
it's a peterless song

feel free to file
this under pending dis
shoot see i messed up

peterless song
this is peterless song
feel free to file
this under pending deletion

Uncool Edit

I recorded this directly on my computer. It's full of digital distortion, which is pretty unpleasant.

Spontaneity Test

This is cheesy, noisy, and very dull.

Lyrics to "Spontaneity Test":

all right, this is a test to see if i can record to the 4-track
just as spontaneously as i record
used to record to the little dictaphone
before it went bananas
so this is spontaneity test

ah
of course with 4-track it's in stereo so i feel a little bit compelled to uh

so i am testing sponteneity
is this as fun as it was on the dictaphone
this is just as relaxing
or there is pressure to make it sound good
to make it sound good

and that makes me wonder
is the pressure such a bad thing
remember key of g? it wasn't so bad
maybe the pressure made me play a little bit tighter
tighter tighter tighter tighter tighter

make it all
trex is about taking risks
and if i don't take risks this just isn't trex
of course key of g wasn't trex either
techicac technically

techically ...

key of g wasn't techilaly
techilaly techilaly techilaly techilaly

key of g wasn't techicaly
[scat]

Fidelity Test

This is silly and kinda pointless.

Lyrics to "Fidelity Test":

um the last song was and this song i recorded
today's the um 13th of april 2007
the ??? sponteneity test the same day
this is called the sound quality test
let me give it a better name
fidelity test

it's a fidelity test
it's
it's a fidel
try it again
it

it's a fidelity test
it's a

it's a fidelity test
it's a fidelity test
it's a fidelity test
i like this one the best

i failed the fidelity test

it's a fidelity test
it's a fidelity test
am i allowed to look at another woman's breasts
ok i failed the fidelity test

if i talk to them can i
all right

it's a fidelity test
it's a fidelity test
can i uh
will i fail if i look at some woman's breasts
it's a fidelity test

ok i gotta turn up the bass because what i am trying to do is test
test the depth of the low notes
1 2 3 4
ok i also need to point the microphone

it's a fidelity test
it's a fidelity test
i like to fidel
a woman's breasts
fidelity test

it's a
ha ha i can't sing
woman's breasts
and i don't know about the rest

??? test
it's a fidelity
it's a fidelity
come on everyone say
it's a woman's breasts
fidelity test

can you hear the bass notes
are we getting a good response
does it sound any better than the little dictaphone
is there a point to this

so much
oh god
i ???
and that's saying a lot
'cause i can't play guitar

it's a fidelity test
it's a fidelity test
it's a fidelity test
i just like to say about the woman's breasts
fidelity test

woman's breasts
fidelity test

ok for you women out there this is your verse

fidelity test
a fidelity test
it's fidelity test
we women like to look at the men's breasts
fidelity test
and all the rest
fidelity test

it's a fidelity test
it's a fidelity test
it's a fidelity test
all the lyrics are so so so so dumb
and so was the playing

and my hand is getting tired
i bet i'm developing callouses

E and Eighth Notes

Not much here. You can tell I was getting tired of the same old same old.

Lyrics to "E and Eighth Notes":

all right same day
oh god i can't believe i filled up half this tape with nothing

everything is in e
everything is in e
everything is in e
everything is in e

everything is in e
everything is eighth notes
everything is eighth notes
everything is eighth notes

everything is in e
everything is in e
everything is in e
everything is in e

everything is eighth notes
everything is eighth notes
eighth notes
eighth notes

everything is in e
everything is in e
everything is in e

everything is eighth notes

1 4 5 eighth notes
1 4 5 eighth notes
1 4 5 eighth notes

Field Imagination

This is kinda offensive, in an naughty puppy sort of way. The music's not bad.

Lyrics to "Field Imagination":

1 2 ready go

across the field there was a stage
and on that field crept a little dog
behind the doggie came a little kid
and behind the kid came the priest

the priest said hey little kid
whatcha doing to that doggie
and the kid said hey little priest
whatcha doing to my butt

and the dog said woof woof woof
woof woof woof woof woof
and the dog said woof woof woof

so the priest took the kid by the butt butt butt butt butt

ok i gotta make a clean version of this

1 2 3

there was a field
and on the field was a stage
there was a tree
and under the tree there was a table

there was a family
eating their lunch under the tree
on the table
with the ants all crawling around them

it was hot, it was hot and
they didn't have enough water
they did not, they they did not
and they started to get dehydrated

so one of the family members said
hey let's jump in the river today
and the other family members said
hooray hooray hooray hooray

so the family left the table
the family left the tree
the family went to the river
took off their clothes and went swimming

[scat]

across the field there was a stage
and onto the stage there hopped a puppy
behind the puppy there came a kid
behind the kid there came a priest
[scat]

while the family went swimming
the priest embraced the kid
while the priest embraced the kid
the kid embraced the puppy

the puppy embraced his shadow
and then his tail
and then a little bit of fluff
that had floated by

everyone was happy
and the family went swimming while
the priest embraced the kid

i'm not gonna say what kind of embrace it was
i'll let it to your imagination
imagination
innocent imagination
that's up to you

and the priest embraced the kid
the kid embraced the puppy
the puppy embraced his t------s

leave it to your imagination

[laugh]

sorry

Losing

This starts with a long, almost delicate instrumental bit. Then it gets repetitive and boring. At least the lyrics are almost clever.

Lyrics to "Losing":

losing losing losing
every game i play
i'm losing losing losing
a little bit of my hair each day

i'm losing losing losing
my will to be improving
i'm losing losing losing
the worries about myself

worries
worries are for other people

i'm losing losing losing
my bank accounts
i'm losing losing losing
all the people that i care about

but the worries are for other people
i'm losing

and worries oh worries are for other people

losing
every game i play

i'm losing
my cell phone and my keys on almost every day

worries are for the plebians
worries are for retarded people

'cause i'm brilliant
i'm losing
i'm brilliant
but i'm losing

i'm brilliant but i do not know how that L got on my forehand
can't change it to a W
w is for worry and worry is not me
i'm losing

i do not have time for worrying when i've got so much tv
i'm losing

i'm losing every game i play
losing my will to thrive every day
i wish i were losing a little bit of this extra weight
but i think i'd rather just fill my plate

i'm losing every day

and worrying that just ain't the way

worrying is something the other south-side people do
north bellingham is the losing zoo

and we're losing losing losing losing every game we play
driving on meridian and sunset every day

worrying that is something those ugly fairhaven people do
while they hike in the woods, bicycle, and hop in a kayak too

and we're losing the will to continue
and we're losing the will to continue

and we're losing the beat
losing
