Andale Mono sizes

Dreamweaver MX - Andale Mono 8 Dreamweaver 8 - Andale Mono 8 HomeSite - Andale Mono 8 HomeSite - Andale Mono 7

Notes

Dreamweaver renders 8pt Andale Mono smaller than other Windows apps (including HomeSite).

"So what???"

I really like Dreamweaver's 8pt Andale Mono because it lets me see lots of code while still remaining readable. The 8pt in other apps is readable but too big, since I can't see as much on the screen and have to scroll more.

"So why not try the 7pt?"

Well, 7pt Andale Mono in other apps is too small for me to read comfortably.

"Sounds like what you need is Andale Mono 7.5pt."

Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be such a thing as a 7.5pt font.

"Well, there's lots of other programming fonts out there; why don't you use one of them?

I've tried other small fonts (proggy, prowin, sheldon, terminus, etc.) but so far none of them has the same clarity as Dreamweaver's 8pt Andale Mono.

"Hmmm. Well, if you're gonna be picky, why not create your own font?"

I'm not a font designer, or even a designer. I'd love to be able to copy Dreamweaver's 8pt Andale Mono so that other apps can use it, but I don't know how to do that.

"If you like Dreamweaver's font so much, why not use Dreamweaver for everything?"

I can only use Dreamweaver on one PC at a time. Plus, Dreamweaver MX crashes a lot. Plus, it's slow. Plus, it doesn't remember which files I last had open for a project. Plus, it doesn't support key-based SSH authentication. Plus, it...

"Okay, okay, okay, I get it. You don't like Dreamweaver enough to use it as your one and only editor."

Yes. I want to be able to use the same font in different editors, on different PCs, and I want that font to look like Dreamweaver's 8pt Andale Mono, or at least something with similar size and readability.

"Okay, well... I'm stumped."

Me too. That's why I created this page. Hopefully someone out there has found or created a programming font which is as compact and clean as Dreamweaver's Andale Mono 8pt. As soon as I find that perfect font, I'll update this page.

Until then, if anyone has any suggestions, please contact me.
