Hello, welcome to The Tempe Times!

Hello! I am interested in IPR releases, upcoming and old. I've heard the For Against releases and they are great. Keep up the great work---Jason....

Trav tripalot.com/travis Fri Dec 12 19:38:46 EST 1997

Woah! A post!!! Throw me for a loop! :)

[Note the dates; over six months had passed since the list got started! -- Trav]

In case you haven't heard yet, IPR is moving their mail order over to Parasol. Out of curiosity, Jason, what are your favorite IPR bands, and how did you get into IPR?

This is a test....

Julia jrmedina@eee.org Mon Dec 22 06:13:10 EST 1997

My test worked :)

I tried the For Against one and it didn't. Anyway, I love For Against, Savage Republic and The Abecedarians. I truly hope "Echelons" will be released on CD as my copy on Cassette is wearing out since I bought it in 1987!

Cheers,
Julia

Chris Perry Chris.Perry2@gte.net Fri Jan 9 18:45:54 EST 1998

I have been an IPR [fan] since I first heard about them around '87 or so. When I worked at a radio station in the early '90s I discovered several bands but the one I like the most has to be Scenic. The "Kelso Run" 45 really entranced me and while I still don't have "Incident at Cima" I did just order "Aquatica" which, to my shock, is offered through Columbia House record club in the states! I'm very anxious to get it, and I would also like to hear the tour split ep they did with Lanterna (locals where I come from). Nice to see other IPR fans.

Paul D EarDrumBuz@aol.com Mon Jan 12 22:59:42 EST 1998

I have been waiting for this for a long time. I would have created a site like this myself, but I'm too lazy! I met Ethan Port in 1984 and Bruce and the rest of the band in 1985. It took me all of 2 seconds to become addicted to the music, art, and style that is IPR.----P.S. Hi Bruce! If you see this, get in touch with me. Been trying to reach you. Maybe I'll get off this thing and use the phone!

David Liso quadrafo@tin.it Sat Jan 17 07:32:58 EST 1998

A warm hello to Bruce and his wife!

You sent me loads of stuff in Switzerland back in 1993, and I am a fan of your art and all IPR bands.

I work in Italy now as a graphic artist...

I am doing a research paper on IPP/Bruce Licher this Spring for an independent study art history course. I was wondering if anyone out there knows about any printed articles on IPP or Bruce in magazines or journals, etc. I am having a little difficulty in finding this type of material. I have a few sources from the net, an Emigre interview, and stuff on IPR but not nearly enough for 20 or more pages. The main focus will be on Bruce/IPPress, but any info related IPP/IPR will help. I'm on a very tight deadline for a bibliography and outline so anybodys help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Armando

Trav tripalot.com/travis Fri Jan 23 10:36:44 EST 1998

Armando - The new Big Takeover has a nice article about Bruce Licher.

Brandon Capps (ex-IPR mail order guy) is on the Internet, and occasionally checks his email, so you might be able to ask him if he's built up an IPR magazine clippings.

It would be interesting to see what IPR bands everyone listens to, and which are highest recommended to newcomers!

Take care!

Trav

Paul D EarDrumBuz@aol.com Tue Jan 27 00:20:21 EST 1998

What don't I listen to would be easier to tackle, but not as much fun. So here are my recommendations:

  1. Buy any IPR items you find.
  2. If you don't like them (and I don't have them), I'll buy em from ya!
  3. When is Alison's Halo going to release something new?!
  4. Deception Bay and Four Way Cross were always among my faves.
  5. My son (he's 3) and I love listening to Tone-The Guitar Ensemble together.
Julia jrmedina@eee.org Sat Jan 31 03:16:54 EST 1998

What IPR bands do I like???

Must get the back catalogue!

Cheers,
Julia

Trav tripalot.com/travis Thu Feb 5 12:06:10 EST 1998

Jack Rabid's The Big Takeover magazine mentioned The B. People in the last issue (I think). They have a new band, but I forget the name. But anyway, I like that peppy, punky sound.

Okay, here's a more restricting question... Which are your favorite IPR CDs? I know they've got a *ton* of vinyl, but not so much on CD. So, of all the IPR CDs you have, which do you recommend most? As far as I know, Fourwaycross only has that one CD (the one with "Shimmer" and "Alison.")

Trav

Paul D EarDrumBuz@aol.com Fri Feb 6 01:33:08 EST 1998

Hi Trav/All,

Well I have all the Fourwaycross vinyl, but I may pick up the On The Other Hand CD just to have it. However, my top recommendations would have to be packaged in Bruce's Discfolio. If you don't have a CD in one of these, they're not only aesthetically beautiful but functional as well, avoiding the use of a plastic tray altogether. The folds of the cardboard hold the disc in place, and some releases come with the CD in a separate sleeve within the Discfolio.

I highly recommend Tripped Up Breathing by Halfstring and Shelflife, the new one from For Against. Both are unique in that they combine letterpress printing with other artwork on the covers. Of course the music is great too!

Julia jrmedina@eee.org Fri Feb 6 02:22:38 EST 1998

IPR CDs? I have *none* Just tapes and vinyl.

Wait, Paul is supposed to give me his Ceremonial CD ;) I didn't even know IPR made CDs until recently..

I did see Fourwaycross CD on the net, so I probably will get it

Cheers,
Julia

Post here

Ben Maki bmaki@interaccess.com http://homepage.interaccess.com/~bmaki/acetone/home.html Wed Feb 11 14:35:38 EST 1998

Trav,

You certainly are the king of message boards. How many of these things you got out here? At least two good one's between this and Rail On!

Anyway, I'm glad there's at least some attention being paid to the highly creative ensemble that is IPR. I've been a fan ever since I got into Savage Republic back in the dawn of the 80s. I've been out of touch with IPR from right about when Scenic arrived. (No more phone calls to Bruce at that point) I've got a boatload of stuff from the label. I have to say it was the care that each product was given that got me to explore the roster of bands.

If I had to list favorites, the list would have to be topped by Savage Republic. Other favorites are 17 Pygmies, For Against, Red Temple Spirits, FourWayCross and more I can't even think of. I'll have to dig out my vinyl from storage (I'm in a no-bedroom apartment right now) or some of the old catalogs.

So, that's about it for right now. Guess I'll have to place a call to Bruce and get a new catalog and play catch up on all the stuff I've been missing. Any suggestions folks?

Thanks for putting this up here Trav.

Ben Maki

Hey, paul! Email me when your email is back in business and we can finish your discography page. Then we can provide a link to it! :)

Ben, I have links to the different discussion lists I run on my Music page. The page is a little out of date (doesn't mention the main IPR page). One of these weekends I hope to be able to update my pages.

Interesting website. Just happened upon it looking for IPR home page. I had the IPR homepage bookmarked sometime ago. I get some type of garbage trying to get to the site now.

FYI on For Against and Millions former members. Check out Floating Opera for Lori Alison and Harry Dingman III contributions. Maybe available at CDNOW or CD Universe. Harry Dingman performed and headed the band Starla and the Nudie Dancer. Some recordings, don't believe they are available to the public. The Return for Greg Hill contributions (cassette only). Contact Randy Watson in Lincoln Nebraska, Black Sea Studios.

Ask Jeff Runnings about pre For Against; Four Against One and Glue.

Anyone interested in Dingman original silkscreens (framed)? I purchased (150$ each) years ago and have no place to display them.

Joe Murphy jomurf@aol.com Mon Feb 23 13:30:26 EST 1998

I have been a fan of IPR and Savage Republic since very early 80's -- I have all SR records and 45's -- and have recently found Scenic CD's in my local record stores. I have Fourwaycross, Deception Bay, Abecedarians, 17 Pygmies, and other IPR products in my record collection. I wandered in here through Yahoo search for Savage Republic websites.

Paul EarDrumBuz@aol.com Wed Feb 25 22:56:04 EST 1998

Hi All,

Ben, I cannot say enough good things about Half String. If you are looking for an introduction to their music, get the Tripped Up Breathing CD ep. It hasn't left my CD player for the last 2 months!

Maybe we can get a topic or two rolling for discussion here. Favorite music, packages or artwork, live shows?

Also, I was going through my IPR printed material today and noticed that I have doubles (or triples) of several items. Maybe some of you are in the same situation and would like to trade.

Hi.

Thought I might try searching out IPR from Japan. I used to order from time to time (about 6 years ago now.) I am trying to get a hold of the Abecedarians ABCD CD. Is it available? I don't suppose IPR would send a catalogue and price list overseas? Or over the net? I would really appreciate your help. I realize you are busy....thanks in advance

To Renars/all,
re:ALISON'S HALO

I heard from Bruce the other day, and knowing how anxious I am to receive the latest on Alison's Halo, he relayed the following:

The Burnt Hair label will be doing a full-length with all the noisy Alisons Halo recordings which IPR almost put out

Can't wait! :o)

Paul EarDrumBuz@aol.com Wed Apr 1 00:36:32 EST 1998

Just rec'd my last direct shipment from IPR (Parasol is now handling all IPR orders), and I have to say, Bruce continues to outdo himself! The Scenic/Lanterna double 7" is just nifty, and the Scenic Acquatica T-shirt is so nice I'm afraid to wash it! Hmm, what's worse? A faded print or a faint odor?

Anyway, I also got to check out an Alison's Halo track (Sunshy) from the forthcoming album. Very nice, but for those of you who don't have the Dozen/Calendar 7" on IPR...what are you waiting for?!

Paul

P.S. Is anybody out there?

Renars se42040@lanet.lv Sat May 2 20:13:57 EDT 1998

Thanx,Paul but i already own Dozen/Calendar 7" myself. Am a lucky owner of IPR/World Domination compilation (feat. A.Halo track "Sunshy" ) and Dewdrops Rec. compilation (feat. A.Halo track "Leech") as well. And all thanx to Adam from A.Halo As to full-lenght, Adam said it should be out in a month . /he said it ~ month ago :) / . Anyway have to check Parasol mail order from time to time .

Ever so slowly (but surely) I am getting my IPR webpage together. One recent addition some of the folks may be interested in seeing is a Savage Republic poster that hangs in the shop at IPP. Just click the "Images" link at my homepage.

Hello!

I made some updates to my IPR home page this morning. Mostly added links to whatever IPR-dedicated sites I could find (there are very few).

Sylvo, you should check out Eardrumbuz's discography; it's not complete, but it's a start. As for ordering IPR material, check out Parasol Mail Order. Both sites (Eardrumbuz and Parasol) have links on my IPR home page.

This is definitely the place to talk to fellow IPR collectors. I'll add IPR to the UBL as soon as I'm done typing this message; that'll get us some more exposure.

I'll try to get some Autumn info for ya soon.

Right now I'm holding off construction on the IPR site until I get my new computer, which should be today (good timing!). Pretty soon I'll be adding info about the different bands. Yay! :)

In the meantime, have you already searched the web? There's a bunch of pages out there that talk about the band. Are you looking for particular information, like what they're up to, what they've released, where to buy their albums, etc? That's the type of info I'll try to get together on here soon.

Hello!

Today I've found out the following:

I've searched one of our online CD-Stores here in germany and as a result , there was a new CD from Scenic called "Broken Wings". Never heard anything before, so is this real, should I buy it? You can check it out by yourself, go to http://www.cybercd.de/

By the way, is there an official Scenic page on the net? I've tried all search engines I know and I`ve found some sites, but nothing official or permanently updated.

If someone could help me out, I would be very happy!
